Desmond M Ryan
Executive Director

Desmond Ryan serves as the Executive Director of the Association for a Better Long Island, having enjoyed a lengthy professional tenure as a government affairs advocate for a broad range of corporate, health, education and energy clients.

His prior work includes his role at Grumman Aerospace where he worked on public affairs issues in Washington, D.C. and Albany, N.Y., reporting to the Chairman of the Board, President and Vice President of the corporation on all government-related matters.

During the 1980’s he also served as Director of Government Affairs, Long Island Association (LIA) having come from the Office of the New York State Assembly Speaker where he focused on legislative issues affecting the Long Island region.

Prior, he was on the staff of the Suffolk County where he worked with the Office of the County Executive and inter-governmental relations.

A graduate of SUNY at Stony Brook, he is married with two children and a resident of St. James.
